A recent profile in The Chronicle of Philanthropy* highlights how the CARE Fund, a grantee in our Gender and Reproductive Equity portfolio, provides unrestricted, multi-year grants to organizations advancing the care movement. Supported by over $50 million through a coalition of donors, the CARE Fund’s impact demonstrates how pooling resources to provide sustained, long-term funding drives national conversations about the importance of care work and advances grassroots movements.

The Care Fund’s grantees featured in the article include additional Schusterman grantees: National Domestic Workers Alliance, Family Values @ Work, Paid Leave for All, MomsRising and National Women’s Law Center. In preparation for the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act approaching expiry, these organizations are focusing on helping the public understand the importance of government investments in care work, with some introducing lobbying and advocacy strategies to ensure the conversation reaches all levels of government.

Incorporating lobbying and advocacy allows for these organizations to engage political leaders in addition to individual voters. As Brook Kelly-Green, Senior Director of our Gender and Reproductive Equity portfolio, shared for this piece, “That has made a big difference in the success of this being something that is more central and centered by the White House.”
