On Tuesday, September 12, we joined Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff to welcome over 150 American Jewish leaders to the Vice President's residence in Washington, D.C. for Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year.
Both Vice President Harris and the Second Gentleman spoke powerfully about the importance of coming together to fight the rise of antisemitism and firmly oppose all forms of hate, racism and bigotry. As Vice President Harris said: "This is one of those times in the history of our country and the world, where we are being presented with a wake-up call—the blast of the shofar—to challenge ourselves, to ask, 'What are we doing? What can we do?' And know that we can do so much."
We are grateful for their leadership on these critical issues.
In her remarks, our Co-President Lisa Eisen reminded us of the opportunity we each have to shape a more just and inclusive future by standing up for what is right, actively supporting our democracy and upholding the Jewish tradition of repairing what is broken.
This article from Jewish Insider covers the event, including the performance given by Jewish singer Regina Spektor and the kosher menu designed by Israeli cookbook author Adeena Sussman.
